Programs & Scholarships
In addition to our partnership with Akron Public Schools, we stay busy conducting outreach with other schools through Career Day presentations and smaller scale Problem Based Learning sessions.
Veterans Ceremony
Each year we host a special remembrance ceremony which usually includes dozens of veterans receiving their lost medals from the local congressional office. This emotional event consists of several prominent civilian and military speakers.
Flight of the Flags
During this somber event, family members bring the burial flags from their loved ones for one last flight. Members of the 555th Honor Guard Detachment perform a mock military funeral complete with flag folding, rifle volley, and missing man formation flyover. Green High School JROTC students load the flags into a WWII TBM Avenger, and the aircraft circles over the airport during a moment of silence. Flags have been flown from every war since WWI and are returned to the families with a certificate from the pilot, coin from Congressman Gonzales, and brass from the rifle volley.
Pilot for a Day
We have formed partnerships with Akron Children’s Hospital and other similar organizations. This partnership allows us to host dozens of children (and siblings) who are fighting various stages of cancer and give them a memorable and motivational day. The kids will get a personal sightseeing flight on an aircraft, a meet & greet with our motivational speaker, a personalized certificate, and pilot wings. Our goal during this portion of the event is to let kids be kids!
